Timing belt replacement...problem SOLVED!

Shawn wanted to know why I couldn't get the car started after changing the timing belt. Well, 'ere it is:

Turned out that the problem was the timing. It was about 90 degrees off so I wasn't getting a spark to the right cylinder.

It was a real PITA lining up the intermediate shaft w/ the crankshaft pulley, and then the camshaft sprocket w/ the cylinder head b/c they kept moving when I would tighten the belt.

After your email, I bagged on trying to line up the intermediate shaft and just concentrated on the camshaft pulley and lining up the
V
O
on the tranny and flyweel.

After that I timed the engine and it runs great!

i want to ask one more question:

The car is supposed to be timed at 6 degress + - 2 degrees before TDC. Is timing it by lining up the

V
O

on the tranny setting it a 6 BTDC (I did not see degree marks on either side of the stationary mark on the tranny)? The timing gun I used has a degree dial on it which I had set to 0. Or do I have to set the degree dial on the gun to 6 degrees and the line up the V O?

I remember a thread that mentioned setting the timing to around 10 or 12 degrees BTDC to get more torque at the lower end. Do I just set the degree mark (on the gun) to 12, and then line up the
V
O

Thanks again,

Victor
