I can picture it now........(Letterman dream sequence begins..)
Mr. Hick grabs a gallon can of nail polish remover.........
Grabs his favorite greasy rag..................
Dumps the remover on the rag, spills all over the floor......
Picks his nose...........
Inspects the bugger nugget for color and quality.......
Flicks said booger..........
The rag is now dry so he reapplies remover..........
Swirls rag all over the rear window................
Excess remover runs down the window and begins to liquify the paint in
the hatch........
Grease mixes in with the remover and ink, makes a bigger
mess..................
Posts to the list not to use remover as it makes a bigger mess!

(Letterman dream sequence ends..)

OK, that's was fun. (for me at least.)
To address your ponderous question, its only the rear window. Try to use
your best judgment in picking the best tool(s) for your "removing the ink
from the window" project. If you need a rag, then by all mean, USE it.
Cotton balls are too small, then how about one of those bigger cotton
pads? Absorbent, does a good job but hey, don't take my word for it! :)
