I try to do everthing myself too,  I have a nice collection of tools
now as well, all I need is a cherry picker and a press and I have
a full service VW shop :).  The only time I let someone else work on
my car is for either alignments, or tires (from now on).  I had to
have the tranny replaced once (crunch crunch) and the clutch has
been screwy ever since.
