You need to check the heater control valve.  It's connected to one of the
heater hoses under the hood.  It is supposed to shut off hot coolant going to
the A/C unit under the dash.  Mine started to leak letting hot coolant to the
heater core.  I had room temp air coming from the center vent but cold from
the sides.  

If i'm correct the design of the under dash housing is such that the outside
vents get cooled air.  They are blown from the unit before the heater core.
