Its all preference. Some people like them, some don't. I prefer my single
wiper over my dual wipers on the GLi. I think it does a much better
thorough job of removing the water than the double blades. That's just my
preference. 

Also the DTM styling has made the single wipers desirable not only in the
VW's but all of the import enthusiasts.
