"Jay Docherty" <jdoc@postoffice.ptd.net>: Re: 91 Scirocco

everyone is half right . . . i guess . . .

the Corrado came out in the 1989 model year. In the U.S., it replaced the
Scirocco. The story I've heard was that in Europe, (where you could buy
many versions of the Scirocco - from wimpy base 65hp models to full blown
140hp 16Vs) the $$$ Corrado could not compete in the lower end market -
hence the Scirocco continued production (perhaps piggybacking the other
A1 chassis - the Cabriolet (U.S. Market name). On the scirocco's side was
the fact that the development costs for it's chassis were written off
long ago. I don't understand why they stopped making the Corrado.

To me, there will never again be a car like the Scirocco. The Corrado was
nice, but . . not quite . . .

I guess that's why I'm on this list.

Thats very interesting, although it really doesn't make sense to me.
I don't believe it one bit. The corrado was the sciroccos
replacement. Because what I understand is that the scirocco wasn't
selling as well as they wanted. They started making the corrado in
'90. Then they stopped making it in 95 again (from what I gather)
because it wasn't selling up to par. So why would VW make the
scirocco the same time as the corrado?!!?!? The corrado was its
replacement. Thet would have been like making the cabrio and
cabriole in the same year, its not good marketing.

If I'm wrong on any points here, tell me right away so I can change
my name and move away.
