RE: Rear axle/disc brake swap...

The axle is from an 88 16v. I've called around here, and the consensus seems to be that I can use the MC that's on the car now, (but with the bigger one, I'll have better pedal feel...) and that I *might* be able to use the proportioning valve that's on there now. (The guy I'm buying the axle from has just swapped the axles on older Sciroccos, and he claims no problems. I'm not sure, so I'll probably be swapping over the MC and Prop. Valve (if I can find one...) Unfortunately, there isn't one on the axle that I'm buying...

Sigh... with these extra purchases, the SS lines will definitely have to wait now... Oh well... Now I'm impatient, I wanna do this tomorrow, but if I gotta find this stuff from a yard or *gasp* dealer, it'll have to wait til next weekend...

Thanks again for the help, Shawn. (Does this post still have those 'buggin' = at the end?)

As long as the axle is from an A1, your ok.
It is a really easy swap. 4 bolts, 2 bottom shock mounts and 2 brake
lines.

I think the rear disc's require more pressure to make it work so im sure
you need a new MC and prop valve. Find out what the brakes came from, its
kinda important.

I think the SS lines are only 4. (don't quote me on that) If/when you
install the rear axle is the prime time to install the rear lines because
you basically have to drop the axle to install the lines to the car. Its
worth waiting for if you don't have the lines yet.
You will need the prop valve for the brakes to work properly. It sets
itself.

It really is straight foreward. Especially if you have an axle to throw
under the car. there s mucho less work to do that way. You can have it in
and running within a few hours, if all goes well.
Say, while you have the axle out, you might want to replace the axle
bushings while your at it. You'll be glad you did!
