body work in progress on my 16v

For anyone who cares, I have a new pic of my engine bay (MUCH
IMPROVEMENT) on my website, http://accomp.com/~ryan/scirocco.html
under my 16v Page, under History...you can then click to see the old
pic..and there is a world of difference eh?

Also I spent all day today peeling off the black molding on the sides
of the car, and also removed the black sticker stuff on the middle
pillars. The car looks definitely different, a lot sleeker. I plan to
remove the pin striping later in the week after my fingers heal.

As a hint, get a halogen work lamp, or heat shrink gun or high power
hairdryer to remove both molding and black sticker. The best method
I found to remove the moding was to get a plastic knife, break off 1"
of the cutting end, then sand that down to sharp edge, heat up the
molding w/ one of the above. i used a halogen work lamp//those
bastards get hot!, heated up the end of the strip, slipped the knife
under the metal part, grabbed it with a towel and used the knife to
repeaditly wedge between the body and the molding, moving the lamp
down as i went pausing for it to heat up the molding a bit. this
let me scrap off most all the sticky tape from the body, w/o using
the knife---- just rippnig it off it left a considerable ammount of
tape that was a pain to scrape off. Also don't leave the lamp in one
spot too long,I actually boiled the molding in one spot (prob a
trapped airbubble in the molding of it). Same thing with that black
stuff...it's actually like shrink tape, if it's cold it's sticky and
brittle, heat it up too much and it's like tar. the trick is to heat
it up enough to slowly and gently pull it off. It's hard and i'm sure
my hands have quite a radiation burn after sitting between my work
lamp and the body trying to peel it off at the perfect temp. As soon
as I go buy some stuff to remove the remainder of the glue (rubbing
alchohol takes too much elbow grease) I'll post some pics. it's
definitely cool looking!

oh i also have my 2 new fenders prepped, all I need is a hood and
it's off to the body shop for a new paint job and ding fixing!!
