Cold start injector wiring woes.

1987 16V Scirocco. Here's what I know:

The coldstar injector doesn't get power. Ground through the thermotime
is just fine and to spec. There is some interruption in the supply of
+12V over the black wire going to the injector. If I provide it with a
jumper, it works. It's ugly, and I lose sleep at night knowing that my
car has an unsightly parasite on its wiring harness.

I spent the evening under the dashboard trying to find the wire in the
harness where it goes through the firewall. Not easy. Not found yet.

I look at the diagram in the Bentley manual (the 16V Electronic Engine
Controls diagram, specifically) and it's a bit unclear. The black wire
appears to remain black coming from the coldstart injector until it gets
to the starter motor (?) where it hits a spot labeled "15a" and then
branches away to a red/black wire, and a connector labeled "T3d"
("3-point, near brake master cylinder").

Anyone have any advice as to between what points there should be
continuity when trying to diagnose this circuit? I'm getting bruises on
my back, chest and knees trying to figure this out, and the girlfriend
is going to start asking questions...
