idiot light

My friend has an '82 Rabbit.  The oil light comes on intermittently,
usually at above 2000rpm.  There certainly is oil in the car, and it
seems to be running fine...Is there anyway to keep that damned buzzer
from going off?  I've never had this problem in my car, so I'm not sure
what to do...

Please enlighten me :)
