Hello and??????

Hello all,
I have been spying on your conversations for the past few days and just wanted
to make myself known. I was writing to ask for some advice from all you
knowledgeable vw junkies. I am looking to start a project and am intersted in
the 81 s. I really like the look (and feel) of the a1. I was told that this is
the only a1 rocco with electronic ignition. Is this true? My brother had a 78
that we had to bump start every time we wanted to go somewhere. I had an 81 s
about 2 years ago and my above mentioned brother wrecked it after a complete
rebuild.

I guess what i really want to know is where to start. I currently have an 80 sci
rocco that i bought for parts from a kid who's parents didn't want it parked in
front of their house anymore. It has a 1.8 from a 85 gti w/manifold and throttle
body. The head has what he called an "e" grind cam(euro grind). It also has the
5spd from the same car in it. Also it has a stainless header(i dont know what
kind it is, but it is there). The car was never ment to be a project in and of
itself(the body is in bad shape). All the glass and trim is intact but there is
alot of cancer. I want to get a really strait 81 to build with maybe a blown
engine or in need of some major work(engine). I got the other one for $150.00(I
think it was a pretty good deal).

Would some of you guys and gals give me some sort of suggested itinerary or
priority list to go with. I will probably take a long time to get it done but
I am looking forward to really learning alot and having some fun.

I also wanted to ask if anyone knows if the above mentioned engine is calif.
smog legal in the 81s. I may just use part off it.

Thanks very much for any and all replies,
David Nichols
