New Owner - Questions.

Hello,

Just a note to inform you all that I am finally the owner of a 1987 16V
Scirocco. It is silver, stock with teardrops, fuba, no sunroof or electric
windows(two less things to worry about), great interior, and 81k miles.

I've waited a long time for this car, and I want to take good care of it;
preventative and otherwise. My question is about oil and tune ups. I live in
Arizona, and during the summer in my lifetime, I have seen the temp at 117 F
degrees. What, in all of your opinions, would be a good weight? A friend
suggested 20W 50, but another friend said that 10W 40 is enough. What about
synthetic?

Second, what does a 16v cost to tune?I've seen the labor rates, but what does
it cost after parts and labor? I'd like to do all the work  myself, but we
all have to start somewhere.
