Frequency valve?

Dear Watercoolers:

Recently, I noticed that when my car was attempting to stall(at idle), the
"Frequency Valve" was not operating. I did notice that, (may be a
coincidence) when I lowered the fuel in the air/fuel mix, it appeared to
stabilize.

BTW, it is an '87 Scirocco 8V. Are these Frequency Valves expensive?
Difficult to replace? Thanks a mil!
