If you actually mean the 6th gear conversion, there isn't one....is there?
I think you have to buy a 6-gear tranny, which runs about $2k. If you have
the dough, and you like topping your car out, this is neat. Otherwise,
screw it. I think it has the stock 16v's 5 gears, plus an overdrive. If
you mistyped and mean MY 5th gear conversion, it basically takes out your
close and cushy-but-high-rev-ing-on-the-highway 5th gear and puts in a
taller one. The conversion takes away from performance between 110-130mph.
What I mean my this: The stock close-ratio 5 gears are designed to keep you
in your *power band* when shifting at redline to give you optimal power, as
opposed to those yucky 3spd automatics. When you alter this, by putting in
a TALLER 5th, you shift drops your rpms LOWER than the power band, so you
have to "catch up" to it. When I shift out of 4th at 110mph, I'm not in my
powerband w/ this TALLER 5th gear. right around 125mph, though, I get back
into it and I can really feel it picking up again. However, I'm only gutsy
enough to hit 135. Remember, I aint got no license. Back to the topic, the
taller 5th keeps your rpms lower when your cruising on trips. It saves
engine wear and gas. Since I cruise more than I FLY, I figured this to be a
wise modification. It took me about 6 hours. I am sending all my *notes*
and do's and don'ts on this project (research I did before attempting the
5th) to Rick on Whitbey island, off Puget sound or whatever, in early march
if he reminds me. After he's done w/ them, anyone who wants them should
contact him.

The mini-slip kit is covered quite nicely in Feb '97's EC. Pick it up.
It's 1/3 the cost of a Quaiffe, so it's probably 1/3 as good.
