Re: Hesitation/Jerky acceleration

I had this problem when accelerating hard(+4000 rpm). What I found is the
injectors start shutting down because fuel pressure was dropping below the
the minimum to spray a good pattern from the injectors. This was in turn
caused by a dirty/partially clogged fuel filter. When there was a high fuel
demand the filter could not flow enough fuel and pressure dropped downstream
of the filter and rough running occurs. Usually, if the engine doesn't die
completely, the engine will settle back down after pulling over and idling
for a short time. Another sign the fuel filter is getting backed up is the
engine won't start on the first try(assuming everything else is well). It
starts at first because the cold start injector(5th injector) may be suppling
the fuel during starter cranking but shuts down immediately when the key is
released. Then the regular system takes over but it may not be up to
pressure(dirty filter) and the engine stalls.

Good Luck.
