I agree with Mike, also check your fuse box where the wires come in, this
was especially a prob on 81 and older, I've had 3 seperate early VWs do
the same thing(its a prelude to total nuclear meltdown of the fuse box,
trust me I know) but you might be able to TEMPORARILY fix it by jiggling
the wires at the back of the box(NOT hard mind you!)....just my little
piece,,,,
