Bentley question

Ok, now I've had 3 people tell me 3 things.

WHAT is the deal here?  Are there 1 or 2 Robert Bentley manuals for each VW
model?  I've been told all 3 I have (service manuals) (gray golf/jetta, orange
scirocco/cabrio, red? rabbit/pickup/rocco-1)are not the ones to get.

Can anyone shed some light on this?  What I am looking for is info
on opening up my several used trannies, and putting some good ones
together.  The manuals I have kinof gloss over this, and talk about the
seals only.

ARGH!!!  Part #'s might help, I guess...
