I don't have an oil pressure gauge yet but I'm really glad I put in a
voltmeter (on the recommendation of the helpful listies). Since I still
have the anemic 55A alternator, it's really helped me to keep track of the
various voltage drops when different accessories are turned on (e.g. I know
exactly when the cooling fan goes on; I know I get a substantial voltage
drop with the parking lights). It just gives me a better awareness of how
the car is doing at any time. Dunno about saving my ass yet but I think it
would tip me off immediately in the event the alternator or voltage
regulator go kaput.

Anyone here hooked up a vacuum gauge? I remember seeing one in a friend's
Jetta a long time ago. Is this what the upshift indicator is based on?
Any useful information to be gotten from one?
