AutoX/Dirt/Pavement (long)

Try going from flat dirt track Friday night to high bank paved oval
ont Satrday night. I did that lots this summer. THe dirt track
didn't let me run camber at all (stock camber) but allowed 60 series
tires. It was nice cause the dirt track was huge and you ran in 3rd
and the oval track is only 1/4 mile (27 deg bank) so 2nd is perfect.
I almost won several times at the dirt track except its a new track
and the rough ride would demolish something every night like a shock tower
completely blown (used chains to fix) or something silly like the
plug coming off the ignition module.
My new car is ultra tough and should last 2 seasons unless I roll it
or something stupid like that. I got a professional roll cage done
on a trade for some stuff and I'd say its pretty close to pro rally
strength (what, me? revenge?) with all structural points covered. I
plan on trying to do all three next year-- autox, dirt and paved with
the same car.
If any of you guys in Toronto want to get into this let me know
cause its alot cheaper now that we can run our VW's with fuel injection and
don't need the stinkin carb setup. To be competitive, all you need
is a Scirocco (yes!), Rabbit or GTi with 1.8L motor. no one has had
a 10:1 motor yet cause of the lack of knock sensor stuff allowed but
its all good now. 60 series tires allowed at both tracks now. You
could easily get a car racing for under $1000 and not be in last
place all the time. Roll cage is the hardest part about the car to
get done but once you're past that step is just little safety stuff.
There's supposed to be more than 30 cars this year. There's nothing
like weaving your way through cars and the strategy involved is
unbelievable. Pure driving skill as well.
Hope i can get a few of you to get bitten by the racing bug.
