The cluster probably won't work - I bought a cluster from an '84 (120mph)
to use with my 82 - but the multi-pin plugs were not the same. No problem
swapping speedos between clusters though - very easy compared to getting
the cluster out of the dash . . .

Does anybody know if there would be any problem using an instrument
cluster from an '82 Scirocco (85 MPH speedo) in my '86 16v? I'm going to
have the 16v's odometer repaired and don't thinkg it's a good idea to
drive it without a cluster. Any help would be appreciated.
