My 88 has always had 195/60/14 sized rubber since I've had it. No problems
to speak of and certainly nothing rubs. I work at a tire shop and though
I'm not really educated about plus fitments, I know that an increase of
10mm in width rarely causes anyone to blink an eye. Perhaps on a very high
performance car (ie: Porsche Turbo) this would be a problem but our
Scirocco's are no problem. I guess the only downside is that I personally
can't compare it with the stock tire since I've never had 'em. Also, I
share your pain about potholes. They have caused me to lose all hope about
mounting my lowering springs.
