Wanted - fuel pressure gauge for CIS.
Howdy!
this is my 1st posting here so let me introduce
myself. My name is Jerzy T. Niesytto and I live
in Austin TX. I'm married to a beautiful Texan
woman that owns an green '82 Scirocco (automatic :-(
The car was always good to us but ever since we
bought '85 Camry it played a second fiddle.
Recently I had several problems w/ Camry and I still
have not finished fixing it. Part of the problem is
(of course) costs of the Toyota parts. Now I know
why my next used car will be VW !
To keep Scirocco alive I started working on it
and, I guess, I caught the "VW germ". This car
is SO MUCH nicer to work on than Toyota !
------------------------------------------------------
And now to my question!
The idling was very rough and car would stall at
the stop lights when in gear.
I eliminated several vacuum leaks. Some were obvious
like eg. power brakes hose or vaccuum advance hose.
Some less obvious like a worn O-ring on the idle screw.
This one also caused screw to get 'sucked in' and lower
the idle speed (below the range at which DIS operates).
I also put a new injector O-rings.
Old ones were hard as a rock.
A little "injector puller" tool made removal
and installation (!)
of the injectors much easier.
Injectors were covered on the sides by a flaky,
black deposit. I suspect that oil from leaking
valve cover was getting into injector seats.
Any other possible cause?
Car now idles much smoother and is more responsive on a highway.
My main problem now is POOR FUEL MILEAGE.
Part of the problem is probably leaking fuel system.
You cannot fill-up the tank completely because then part of the
fuel leaks out (!???)
I did not repeat this experiment so I could not pin-point the
source of the leak.
Tank definitely does not hold any pressure.
The other possibility is wrong mixture. My O2 sensor is gone
so I cannot at the moment adjust the mixture.
It also may be a wrong control or system pressure.
Does anybody know a source for inexpensive fuel pressure
gauge for the CIS system?
Is it possible to make the one?
How good is the equipment sold by JC Whitney ?
(they offer one for $55).
Cheers,
Tom
