I just got my fave '87 vehicle detailed after the ravages of a Colorado
 winter.

Now I'm really hacked: The road sand has totally hosed what was a paint job
in almost pristine condition!! Dings all over the hood, door panels, not to
mention how bad the windshield is!! Looks like hell.

What do you folks (that have winters) do for protection against the road
 sand that's dumped during winter???

Here in Maine they use a salt/sand mix. I really dont drive the scirocco in
the winter but I the thought that I may a put a coat of good wax on my car
like Mothers or Auri ( a hard as nails wax). I also will use a bra but I
added a rubber seal to the top and sides of it and a super strong elastic
band to hold it tight and sealed so that sand/salt doesn't get under the bra
and scratch the paint. the only other time I use it is when driving long
highway trips. But i take it off at least every other day to rinse the area
under it. I run the car through the car wash once a week and get the whole
car clean on the out side as well as underneath. I really hate how bras look
but it helps. I also made some headlight covers that are velcroed on when I
drive it in the winter to protect the Hellas. AS for the windshield I havent
figured that one out but there are places that buff glass on cars.

Hope I've been some help.
