Well, IMHO, this would take more power than a straight-forward supercharger
would, unless you have a supercounductor in your car.  :)  No, in all
seriousness, the most direct method of power by supercharging is through the
pulley.  What you lose in hp at the crank, you more than gain by boost.  CIf
you do the math, it's there.  This is also true for turbocharging.
Manufacturers put in an extra small manifold, so that the exhaust velocity
is very high and creates more boost.  You might think that extra
backpressure is a loss anyway you slice it, but it is not the case.
