Your odometer problem is most likely the VDO broken gear syndrome.
Mine is cracked which I can here clicking at high speeds and actually
adds miles to my car. Anyone have a better solution than hobby
shop gears to fix this?

Karmann emblems: I bought my Scirocco new in '85, the emblems
fell off in '86. Maybe it was that Arizona heat.
