Shawn's appraisal made me have another idea on this.  What about the dreaded
'self-macnining' tranny syndrome?  I hope not, but this si a possibility,
esp.  If you hear a strange noise when this happens.  Happened to me, wide
ratio now, but not forever.  :-0
