RE: rebuild 87 16 valve

>Any info on anything would be a big help

Word on the street is stick w/ stock valves. Since you're gonna be in
there, I'd DEFINITELY put in an aftermarket cam. Even the euro-spec intake
cam is supposed to kick ass, and you can keep your exhaust cam the way it
is
if you do that swap.

If you want to do some interesting reading, got to Jan's FAQ's (Most VW
related pages have links) and read the Performance comments from Ex-Drake
sales manager about performance mods on VW. Some may feel he is alittle
bias towards Drake but non the less very informative. The info is dated
but the theories still do apply. The guy's name is Robert Collins and his
reports are a 5 part series. Great reading, this should set you up to ask
the right questions, ie forged vs cast pistons, billet, welded or cast
cranks cams, german billet, welded, or regrind. If any of these things
are Greek to you, you probably should visit the reports.
