Question: Radial engines??/

Just a thought that i thought some of you may be able to comment on....
Why (besides space reasons) hasn' the radial engine taken off in cars?
Does anyone know how efficient/good/bad/etc.. the radial design is?
When i say radial i mean as in the old planes engines where the cylinders are
circularly opposed.  Just a thought...
