They describe a couple of different cases of speedos going bad, but I bet 
you belong to the case where the rightmost digit of the upper set of mile 
numbers engages intermittently because the shaft slides inside the metal 
gear. The fix they describe is not 100% detailed, but it should give you 
a good idea of what to do. From then on use your common sense and some 
super-glue of 5-minute-epoxy and you will be set. I did that to my speedo 
back in September and it hasn't skipped a mile yet :-)
