Wheel locks

I know that a bunch of ya'll have some expensive wheels on your cars.  So
what kind of wheel locks are you using?  Do all VW's have lug bolts instead
of lug nuts like the rest of the world?  Is this a German thing?  If so,
what's the rationale for using bolts instead of nuts, besides making it
harder to mount the wheel ;)  I put studs in my dead 81's rotor a long time
ago so I could use Gorilla lock nuts.  I haven't had a problem with the
studs so I'm thinking about doing the same thing with my other '81.  Or
should I try to find wheel lock bolts instead?  As always, TIA,
