I have replied to simular questions in the past on this mod, maybge I should
save one and cut/paste! :)
Anyways, I have done the JH conversion with my 82' Scirocco with little or no
trouble. It was extremely easy to make the swap. Heres what you need to make
it work besides the engine. You will need the upper radiator hose since the
housing comes between the #3 and #4 cylinders instead of the #2 and #3
cylinder. Other than that, it will work great. 

Just remember to get yourself a good clutch (SACHS) to go in while you have
the engine out. Also try and get the distributor and intake manifold and
throttle body with it too. I got all that stuff for only $400 and now I got
me a screamer!
