The car spent 9 years in dry storage after a timing belt faileure and the last year in my driveway getting a rebuild and modification regiment. Okay, this ad is for, shall we say "the smart Scirocco shopper" due to circumstances beyond my control. I almost got my ass kicked by my redneck father in law two days ago - why is that important to you, Dear Vortex Reader? Read on ... I'll explain.
For the last 20 years I've accumulated quite an inventory of Scirocco II specific parts (as I've owned 13 Sciroccos - about half 16v, the other half 8v). I've bought, traded for ... junkyard hounded ...and stripped two of my cars down to the shell after they suffered terminal body damage. This leaves me with a lot of parts. I will list them at the end of this ad.
If you can get your arse to Southern DE no later than Monday - as in THIS MONDAY, the 24th ... you will get all of these parts (and trust me, except for the big body parts - they WILL fit in the Scirocco cuz I just MOVED THE CAR 1000 miles four days ago!) included in the deal.
That said, the car is NOT running as I needed a mere 2-3 hours ...maybe days to get her back running - she was parked in very good running condition - a tune up within 1000 miles before I parked her - gear oil change just weeks before parking as well
So what this means to you is ... IF you can get a trailer or Uhaul dolly for the pennies it costs ... AND you can come to zip code 19939 in the next few days ...you get ALL OF THIS + the car for $600!
that's it ...need I say more? oh, well it doesn't hurt to mention I have receipts IN the car that show the $2000+ I have in the cylinder head alone - the Schrick 276 cams and their titanium retainers were NOT cheap - the HD valve springs from Denon Performance in Canada - ditto
oh and the TT downpipe cat combo and stainless ending in Borla exhaust ain't hurtin' either ...
oh and the Nology plugs
VGC Jetta Recaros ... hmmmm spare expensive 16v parts as part of the exhaustive Parts Inventory list you see below ... well it is safe to say this is probably one of the best deals EVER to come around vortex - if you are here in America and have the intelligence to see it - and the money to make a MOVE on it -
hey what can I say --- I am not fighting my father in law - I already stole his baby daughter - I won't add insult to injury ... Please Rescue this car from this evil Redneck ... if I leave it in his driveway - I will most assuredly smash all of the windows ...limited pictures - car will need rims as I think I only have 1 14" space saver
so bring some 14" crappy rims you have with ****ty tires able to make the haul to wherever you live ... and why don't you begin the journey that is far from over for me - I just F'd up ... trusting a strange man I didn't know so well ... thinking after a year with his daughter .... and even worse - taking my 'injured Scirocco' out of it's cryofreeze 3 year SAFE and SOUND storage in my sister's garage in Indiana ... only to now find I have to abandon this stuff ...
this stuff IS valuable to those who know ...if you are stupid enough to ask ... NO I CANNOT PART THIS OUT ... this is what my earlier ads mentioned I wanted to do ... hell, I work (for the next few days) in OC, MD ... I was gearing up for my first VW event, H2O Int'l ...all of this is now NOT gonna happen - don't let these parts get tossed ...
I KNOW NO ONE here to help me out with this - SOMEONE FOR 600 dollars is going to be very happy with this "barn find" -literally ... this car was in my sister's barn-like garage until dummy me moved it here last Monday!!!!!!

Solid drivetrain, strong compression checked within 5k miles. New belts including timing belt. Easily passes Colorado smog requirements and I have the certification for that.
Body is a bit run down, with a dent behind the passenger's side door and a rumpled hood. Speedometer cable occasionally squeals, probably an easy fix but I haven't had the patience to go into the dash and fix it. Somewhat tricky going into 1st gear, should just be a linkage problem but I also haven't had a chance to check further into that. Climate control is currently broken. Needs brakes front and rear. Car likes to rattle at idle, but it drives smoothly.

Car was slid off a bank did not roll and no broken glass there is one broken rear turn signal and one broken head light. the front end was crunched in but not to bad against motor. Motor probably still runs just don't have time or tools to take front end off and find out. rear left quarter panel is dented good. New front tires and many new parts in engine was repaired to good running condition 3 months ago and ran great engine is extremely clean interior is somewhat dirty from living in muddy area but can be cleaned and looks great. Seats are in good condition trunk is as well. Doors are not dented and passenger side looks good. needs new window handles and missing one pin in the sunroof. Other than that car is good for alot of original parts such as tail lights glass head lights (except 1). Not asking a whole lot but not going to let go for a small amount if you would like to see pics email me and I can email some back and project can in need of parts this will help.

Dallas, TX USA - Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 17:19:11 (EDT)Selling my 1987 Scirocco 16V. I will try to be brief but detailed about this car’s history and current state.
I purchased the car in September of 2008 where it has been sitting in a man’s yard for over 3 years without being moved or driven. Due to a poor sealing gasket on the passenger door, the rear floor boards had nearly an inch of standing water. I purchased the car with hopes of mildly restoring it and using it is a second driver.
My first task involved removing all of the carpet in the entire car, along with all of the padding and sound proofing material that was on the floor boards. I then cleaned the metal properly, JB Welded a couple of small holes (small as in a pencil eraser or smaller), and applied 3 liberal coats of this wonderful stuff I found called Rust Bullet. I did a great amount of research and had at one point considered Herculiner (or another paint on bed liner material), OsPho and other rust neutralizers, and it seemed Rust Bullet was the best through research and customer testimony. As seen in the pictures, the only carpet present are 2 original Scirocco 16V floor mats, and the rest is solid metal coated with Rust Bullet. I had future intentions of lining all the metal with heat shielding DynaMat and buying a new piece of original formed carpenting (which I have seen on different websites for under $200).
Other upgrades I made was all new suspension, brakes, tires and wheels on all four corners. The wheels are genuine Volkswagen 14x6 4x100 that have been cleaned, restored and powder coated gun metal gray wrapped in brand new Fuzion HRi tires with less than 1000 miles on them. Brand new Boge Hydraulic Shocks in front and rear wrapped with reconditioned lowering springs that were bead blasted and powder coated black. In front: new Strut Bearings, new Control Arms with Polyurethane Bushings, new cross-drilled Brake Rotors, and new semi-metallic Brake Pads. In rear: new cross-drilled Brake Rotors, semi-metallic Brake Pads and new Wheel Bearings.
The engine is completely stock without one single modification or add-on. Currently there is a vacuum leak that is causing the engine to idle high and generating slight throttle hesitation when first started cold. Also, only recently have I had 3 instances where the car was driven for a short distance and then refused to start due to a partially drained battery (the starter would turn very slowly but the car could be pop started with one try every time and drive just fine). The battery is a Wal-Mart battery less than one year old so I am thinking the alternator could be faultering but I haven’t taken it to be bench tested.
As seen in the pictures there are a couple trouble rust spots on the rear hatch, hood and a very small spot at the rear of the quarter glass on the rear passenger side. There is also some surface rust present on different suspension components such as the rear control arms and sway bars but nothing serious, and there is no rust to be found on the floor pans.
Hiccups with the car are as follows and mostly attribute to age and the time it sat un-ran: Front windshield wipers operate very slowly. Passenger side power mirror was replaced but not functioning. A/C does not blow cold, but compressor clutch does engage and cooling fan speed increases. Previous vacuum leaks and attributed running conditions as mentioned. CD player receives power, but face plate does not light up or operate.
I am sure there are other small random quarks with the car, but is to be expected for its age and mileage. I just want to make sure everything is out in the open rather than in person or after the sale.
With the car I am also including items I have purchased but not done anything with. A fully assembled and preserved, super-clean 1.8 litre 16V cylinder head wrapped in multiple layers of sealed plastic and dripping in oil. A used external oil cooler set-up which includes the oil cooler, lines and the adapter plate for the oil filter mounting flange. A box full of nearly every single weather seal and door gasket on the car. A used timing belt tensioner pulley, a used cylinder head cooling flange, and a used 16V cold start valve in its own mounting flange. A set of 4 used fuel injectors along with the original braided and formed fuel lines. Two Scirocco power and heated side mirrors. The original door molding plates and the original deck lid mounting bars with a piece of wood cut to fit the deck lid opening and the bars. A mint condition Bentley service manual along with 6 feet of new un-cut vacuum line.
I am selling this car due to having started a family and needing a more safe and child friendly transport; and really overall not having the time or money I would like to devote to this vehicle.

BAD: windshield is cracked vertically down the center and may need a clutch soon ( I think it is original)
Speedometer works! and is original. There is no rust under the car that I know of. This would make a great project for a restoration I no longer have the time or money to invest.

So I do not need to sell this car, I just want to play with something different, mainly a mk2 vr6 swapped gti. If you have the cash then I still might not sell you this car. This is a fun car that I want to stay in the VW family. This is one of the kids and it is only going to a good loving home. So this is the Rocco you have been looking for. It is an 87 gtx all the ground afex are still perfect, the black leather door panels are still perfect the carpet is very good the interior is still very good, aside from the dash. The out side is rust and crash free, there is a place on the hood that has a little peck in it from were the last owner did not did use the correct place for the hood prop. The bumpers are a little faded and in some places the clear is starting to peal. Over all this car looks good, and runs strong. OK so this car is set up for auto X, it rides like it is set up for auto X, if you like that sort of thing then you will love this car. If you want a VW that will bust a Honda's @## in the the twisties or stop light to stop light then you will love this car. If you love a close ratio trans that keep you in the sweet spot every time you shift then you will love this car. If you love the way a stiff clutch and a firm racing seat feels then you will love this car. If you love the way a good stiff car with very little flex and no role feels then you will love this car. If you do not love those things then you might not love this car, but if you do love these things then you will love this car. Will get some pics up soon.

It has euro bumpers, Pirelli P-Nero tires on aluminum Borbet wheels, and Bilstein shocks and springs. It is a dark charcoal gray and was painted several years ago (before I owned it). The car has two rust spots, one on each side of the pillars (where the Karmann emblems go) that are starting to bubble through the paint. Other than that, it is very solid and mostly rust-free. The paint looks ok, but the clear coat is beginning to flake in some areas, and a new paint job would really make the car stand out, but not critical as a daily driver. The dash has the usual cracks, but has a nice dash cover with "Scirocco 16V" embroidered near the glove box. The floor mats are black, are in nice condition, and have "Scirocco" embroidered in them as well. It has new wiper blades, new fuel filter, and the oil was recently changed (Mobil 1 synthetic). It has a Pioneer stereo/CD player that works great. I get comments on this car everywhere I go and am only selling because we are downsizing to move to our second home in the mountains, and have five cars. A VW enthusiast could easily take this car to the next step. If you are looking for a nice 16v, then this one is worth checking out. I have owned it for two years and it has always been garaged. ~ 131k miles. I am the second owner, purchased in March 1991. Owned in NC, SC, and for 2 years in TN. Garaged or covered parking for about 90% of the time I've owned it. Euro bumpers, headlights, turn signals and rear fog light. Falken performance tires about 3 years old. All maintenance and service records for the past 17 years.

1) Is this car still available? If you are reading this ad, it is. I will take the ad down after sold or if I decide not to sell it.
Q: Can you list the maintenance that's been performed on the car (e.g., brakes, clutch, starter, generator, radiator, etc.)? A: too lengthy to list on this add. Regular maintenance has been completed, strictly adhering to the VW Bently manual since 1991. Non-regular repairs I've made over the years include battery (2005), thermostat & cooling fan switch ('05), shifter bushings ('01), shocks (2000), O2 sensor, ignition cables ('00), muffler, CV boots, ignition control unit ('99), AC compressor w/ 134a conversion ('99), motor mounts ('94), water pump, alternator ('92), fuel tank recall ('91).
Q: Has it ever overheated? A: No.
Q: How does the A/C operate? A: Needs a coolant re-charge (was converted to the more environmentally-friendly option several years back), but otherwise it works fine. (fan position #4 does not work however)
Q: Does it have power steering and/or power windows? A: Power steering, only.
Q: Are there any mechanical or cosmetic issues that we should know about? A: the mechanical things I am aware of are: recommendation from mechanic to replace steering rod bushings, need to replace rubber seals on the roof antenna and the rear hatch lock, hatch lift hydraulic pistons need replacing, driver's seat side bolster is loose. Paint job is original and is still glossy and water repellent. Some weathering is visible though, that would be expected with 20-year old paint.
Q: How does the car idle? A: Very well,for the 16V engine. It was never as smooth as larger engines, but is just as good as it was 10 years ago.
Q: Is the wiper action strong? (trying to assess the condition of the wiper motor) A: No problems with wipers at all - front or rear hatch.
Q: Does the car start consistently? A: yes - always.
Q: How does the sunroof work? A: manual crank - works fine but takes a little human-power to operate. No leaks whatsoever - fresh seals put on ~ 6 years ago.
Q: Has there ever been any interior leaks? A: not that I can recall. If you aim a water hose just right at a corner on the window, you will get some water to come through due to the very-common seal-shrinkage issue w/ VWs. Otherwise, all is AOK.
Q: Is there any rust on the floorboards? Anywhere else on the car? A: no - none at all.
Q: Does it burn any oil? A: not that I can tell. I have the oil changed at least every 6 months, as it never averages more than 3k miles during that time. in those 6 months, I never have to top off the oil.
Q:was the car ever in a accident? A: yes, a couple of very minor fender-benders. In '98 had a hit/run in a parking lot & replaced the left fender/fender flare for $1000. In '97 was rear-ended at a stop light and replaced quarter panel, rear body panel, rear light lenses, and rear bumper cover for $1600.
Q: when was the timing belt last done? A: replaced at 122k, in 2001
Q: how is the paint, underbody any rust ? A: paint is original, glossy and water-repellant (beads). No rust whatsoever. Q: is there any modification to the engine ? A: no - original spec-engine.

It has about 235,000 miles on original engine (2nd Odo died). I have a list of all things fixed since I bought it 11 years ago. I am the second owner. Head gasket done two years ago. ALL NEW coolant hoses and new heater valve w/ cable 1 year ago! New fuel pump (OEM bosch - NEW) and intake/exhaust gaskets done 5 months ago. Runs great! No leaks!! Slight click in steering wheel from bad bearing in column. I have the OEM part for replacement.
Body in good shape but can use some work to make 100%. Titan Red Metallic. Rust only at right rear corner (see pics), pass door changed because of dent (now red), front hood and drivers side fender replaced because of small bump in corner (now silver). 16v kit attached. Tinted rear lens and euro front lights. Front right main beam 1 adjuster broke. Kamei front grill in great shape. Kamei upper front lip in new condition (not even mounted - VERY, VERY RARE). Door handles are Chinese rear Jetta (keyless) converted to front use (very rare).
Things done to the car as follows:
Neuspeed lowering springs with boge struts. Lower brace bar. All poly in front and rear. Old school upper front strut mounts with poly (VERY RARE!). Konig Heliums in good shape with Pirelli tires with 80% left. Custom 3" intake attached to lower air box with K&N filter. Neuspeed TB with shaved intake mani. Rapid Parts Blue Igniter wires. Clutch cable with "self adjuster" removed. 210mm HD clutch, flywheel and T.O. bearing (about 5 years ago) Short throw shifter kit with new parts and "cut" stick with OEM shifter handle. Parts of a TT 2 1/4" exhaust but muffler rusted out so "no name" SS muffler added (nice looking but a little loud for me). 16v brakes front and read disc converted with 22mm master with the CORRECT proportioning valves. 16v roof ant with new whip. Single wiper kit from 1982 MKII (VERY RARE) Added grounds under hood.
Interior is in great shape. Black on black with a die black headliner. Black leather OEM rear seats and front door cards. Front seats are in "so-so" condition but are NOT OEM (Porsche style). Dash is black but has bad cracking. Dash has white dials (slight lifting - Thanks Rapid Parts ). Rare white face for climate and OEM white face VDO volt gauge. Trim painted Red. Power locks and power windows added (Not OEM).
Tons of parts included that when added would make this car a great ride! Bearing for steering column, fuel pump case and bracket, rear beam poly mounts, new exhaust studs/copper nuts and gaskets, nice pair of new fogs (switch and wires already mounted), 1 extra euro high beam and 1 right euro CLEAR side marker (VERY RARE - drivers side got hit ), heater core (used) and new heater hoses, extra shifter rebuild parts, OEM door handles, extra pass side glass and trim, extra parts for the Dasher upper strut mounts (VERY, VERY RARE!!), Pass side under mount tray modded to fit Scirocco with AC (VERY VERY RARE), extra mirrors, headlights tail light, rear wiper, popper for rear hatch .... lots more extra bits and pieces!!!!
Also have ALL books from car when new and ALL keys. Also has Prestige alarm with two remotes. side mount smoked blinkers, two sets of black floor mats and some "ricey" seat covers. OLD School Blaupunkt with changer and Monster cable RCAs. Polk db speakers and an old school Kenwood mini EQ. Sounded great when it was all hooked up! Optima battery is dead and will not take a charge. I am trying to get a replacement.

For a 16v scirocco: the rearmost bushings, that hold the ends of the bar against the trailing beam arms, close to the rear lower shock bolts.
for any MK1:
The metal swaybar brackets that mount the swaybar to the horizontal part of the trailing beam.
