I should ask the materials engineers and the areodynamicisits here at GE about the cavitation problems associated with high speed, high pressure turbos exposed to such caustic atmosphereic conditions. Maybe Ceramic impellers would perform better.
Who would like to fund this serious scientific endevour? I have Tyvex suits, hoods and respirators....
