(Solved): Master Cylinder - WTF?

Well, I still have at least a little hair left.

I chatted with Ron on the phone this evening and he gave me
a couple things to try. The tests were fine, but by that
time dad was over at the hangar so I picked his brain. He
felt the pedal and started suspecting the MC itself, so I
went ahead and removed it. Well, turns out that the
booster that I installed was junk. A) the shaft wasn't
long enough to fully engage the MC piston and B) it was
actually what was causing the serious "catch" in the pedal.

I have re-installed the old booster, hoping that the brake
fluid did no permanant damage to the internals. (A new
booster is unobtainium.) The system bled beautifully after
that, and the test drive was a success. (Side note, I
topped off the tank, and while pumping gas I had a guy
remark that I had "a nice car, what year is it?" Made me
smile. :)

So Deiter is in the garage, having done the big hangar
car-shuffle after the test drive. It's now a bit after
midnight, and I think I'll go have dinner.

Thanks to all for the suggestions / encouragements /
postulations. That's a big part of what this list is all about.
