IRS admits Fault!

Hi All.
It's like this; all you really have to know is that the IRS gets to make
up the rules as they go along. Don't like the rules? You can appeal... in
Tax court, to a judge who is paid by [wait for it...] the IRS!! Amazingly
enough, very few appeals are granted.
I claimed the "income earned overseas" exemption for some of my income
in 2001 & 2002. Why, you ask? I was working at McMurdo Station, Antarctica,
from Oct. 7, 2001 and flew back out to New Zealand Oct. 1, 2002; so I was
well over the 330- consecutive day minimum. From Denver, Colorado it's
roughly 10,000 miles to McMurdo. Ya can't get much more overseas than that.
From mid-March until late August, the station was closed (always is
during Winter), no flights in. No mail, no freshies (fruits & veg), limited
outside communication. Even during Summer our mail is lowest flight priority
after "science cargo" (which was once a small herd of inflatable sheep for
some beaker's idea of a party), there's no OSHA or labor law (we're outside
the US for that, it seems), and past lawsuits for injury and/or death
resulting from corporate or governmental moronitude have been throw out of
US courts for "lack of jurisdiction".
To sum up, when I work on the Ice; for taxes I'm working in the US, for
all the benefits I supposedly pay taxes for I might as well be on the moon.

And I'll stop there before I get into a political rant. Be aware; I
consider slamming the IRS to be a purely non- partisan deal...

Karl
