suspension talk

If the eventual goal is a "little race car", and you're trying to spend as little money as possible now without regretting it later, I'd go with some Koni inserts and find some good (H&R, Eiback, Neuspeed) springs. You can do the Ground Control setup later when you can afford to, and not worry about having to throw away your shock investment. Bilstein would absolutely be a good choice too. I happen to prefer the Konis myself, but Bilstein makes great stuff. Either the Konis or the Bilsteins can be rebuilt/revalved/customized if you ever need to, and the cost is relatively cheap.

I don't know much about the H&R coilover setup. I'm sure it is good quality considering H&R's general reputation. Their springs are awesome (had H&R sports on my street 16v back when) but I haven't seen the coilovers/dampers much in the racing world. This would lead me to assume that they are more of a "show/sport" coilover setup until someone with real experience says otherwise. Turner Motorsport, for example, has H&R as their primary team sponsor on the World Challenge BMWs. They sell an H&R coilover on their website, but they run either Bilstein or Moton dampers on the race cars with H&R springs.

As mentioned, I have blown low line tokicos on soft lowering springs.
Like many of us, i want this car to be a little race car, but Brian
pointed out that reality is probably over a year away.

so instead of going with some insane ground control setup, I may resign
to getting a nice street setup that will be fun for track days.

I consider the h&r coilover probably the ultimate option - but I wonder
if the price difference is justifiable. I don't really care about
having the car slammed to the ground, I just want good handling, so if
similar levels can be obtained with cheaper options, i'd go that route.

If I don't go with that, I am leaning towards bilstein inserts with some
h&r springs. Anyone know how different h&r sports are from h&r race?

The h&r sport cup kit looks nice too, but I'd rather have more than the
1 yr warranty offered on the dampeners.

Thanks for the feedback, and I plan to buy at the potters'
