Tech Q's: Can You Run A CIS-E Fuel Distributor For CIS With A 16V

I've been trying to get my CIS-E box to run without the DPR, and it seems as though it cannot be done. I'm pretty sure my DPR is failing, as when the car decides it's going to run crappy, I can unplug the DPR and it makes no difference. One of the last times I used my DPR harness while it was doing this, the readout would start at 16 and count down by 2's in a nice even rhythm all the way to 0 and then start over at 16. Hmm. That can't be right. Of course, sometimes I can shut the car off, restart, and everything is fine.

I've also pulled the DPR off, and unscrewed the little flat head screw on the back and tweaked the hex screw inside a little but it made it more rich at idle and it still ran like crap.

I took the gasser for it's final drive for the season, me thinks, yesterday. It finally started to behave after about 15 minutes of driving full throttle just to get the car to go anywhere and prevent myself from being killed at intersections. Even when it was "running right" it still would be gutless unless you floored it, then there was this sudden rush of power and the tires would break loose. I brought it home, backed it in the garage, and got it in position for engine removal. I will probably pick up an engine hoist this weekend. :D

Subject: Tech Q's: Can You Run A CIS-E Fuel Distributor For CIS With A 16V

I'm getting ready to build up Mars, with a 2L 16V and an CAN trans.

Can you use a 16V fuel distributor as a CIS fuel distributor?
I want to use CIS to run a 2L 16V in my '81 Scirocco, and I think it would
be easier to swap in the 16V fuel distributor with the fuel lines,
injectors, and 50mm intake from my '79 16V.
The Rabbit GTI 2L16V, that I had ran really strong on the stock CIS.

1.8L 16V injectors will work fine with a 2L 16V, right? I'm pretty sure you
just have to change them for Motronic...

Thanks!

Peter
