Bridge Collapse

Well of course-- I care anyway... I can't speak for everyone.

I didn't hear about it until this morning. I was in a car all day
yesterday listening to an IPOD so no news... As soon as I heard I
emailed the list.

Anytime something like this happens I am concerned.

I knew people that died on 9/11 in the pentagon. I was in WA State at
the time. You never know.

I am glad you guys are ok. I still feel for the people injured and
killed. I don't have to have a personal connection to them to mourn
the loss of life especially when it could have been prevented. One
article I read said that it got a score of 50 on structural stability
out of a possible 120.

Don't think Spewy or I mean to sound ungrateful for your concern at all, but I agree with what he was saying about how it is really odd that so many people are really worried about anyone they know who lives in the area. I had friends from New York, Virginia, and other places urgently calling/texting within minutes of the accident to see if we're OK. Not trying to make anyone feel bad for being concerned or anything...but it just feels weird when you get asked.

I'm sure the death count will go up, but there are "only" about 20 people unaccounted for and only a couple deaths so far. Even if all 20 end up being declared dead (hopefully not!), I'd still be darn impressed that only ~25 people died. Judging from the video footage, that was just one big tangled mess of concrete and steel. Not saying I wouldn't have been screaming my bloody head off myself, but it clearly must have collapsed in at least a slightly controlled manner.

Maybe not as much traffic, but a much bigger drop, all concrete (i.e. big crash instead of a relatively slow collapse of steel) and more likely to have been carrying myself or someone I knew.
