16V Alternator pulley

I am trying to help out this neighbor kid who has a xflow ABA swap in his A2
Golf.  He needs an alternator pulley that does not stick out very far and
was told one from a 16V scirocco does this.  I have not seen the engine in
person and do not know why he is not using an A3 alternator and pulley.  Is
the 16V pulley any different than an 8V one?  If so I need one.  TIA.
