Got my competition license! longish

I passed my road racing license test the other weekend. I finally get to check that item off of my life's ToDo list.

Sadly, my *first* race was the very *last* race of the Neuspeed GTi Cup (the series is now officially defunct). The good news is that NASA (not the space organization) has started a new Performance Touring series that now classifies cars based on state of trim. This means VWs can run against VWs, Hondas, Miatas, etc... I'll be campaigning the Rabbit GTi that I got my seat time in while I build...

a race mk2 Scirocco! Does that make you horny, baby, yeah!

  A quick FYI

The GTi Cup cars were the slowest cars on the track, always gridded last in the multi group races. Spec Miatas were faster. Honda Civics were faster. The umbrella girls barely gave the A1s the time of day. Now that the PT series is their new home, carbs and cams are going to
turn these bunnies into killer rabbits (uh oh unitentional Holy Grail reference...) RUN AWAY RUN AWAY!

That being said, I'm in the market for 40mm side drafts with 36mm chokes, so please keep your ears and eyes open. I need not say, "on the cheap."

As for the scirocco, I might be getting a 16v rolling chassis in a few weeks. The biggest (ie, expensive) part of the build will be the 6 point roll cage, but if I build my own tubing bender, it should save quite a bit. The car will be a rather stockish 1.8 16v on CIS (maybe euro CIS), mild DIY port/polish, with full header (if I carb it, I'm bumped into the next faster class). Tempted to run the Oettinger 16v head, but I think they will be closing the non-OEM loophole next year. Feel free to speculate on hp. I'm guessing 140 crank while the carbed/288 cammed 1.8 JH cars are around 145. Scirocco is 5hp down, but it has better aero and better brakes. And, well, it's a better looking car. Preaching to the choir.

Oh the tracks I'll be running will all be in Northern California; Laguna Seca, Infineon (aka Sears Point) and Thunderhill Raceway. OG Shawn Meze runs in SoCal in his mk1.
Nationals will be in Mid Ohio, but if I go, I'll most likely be a spectator.

It would be nice to see other Sciroccos on the track. As it stands, mine will be the only one :^(
