Chopped Top Roccs?

Anyone chopped the top on a scirocco?

I seem to remember a picture of one - I think it was on one of those
pages full of goofy looking old school sciroccos from Germany.

It's one of the hair-brained ideas I'm tossing around for when I
finally have my own garage to keep the car in. I was reading about it
a few weeks back and saw that one of the ways to do it is to recess
the windscreen down below the hood line - which is how modern cars are
designed so the wipers are hidden. That would eliminate the need for
cutting the windscreen glass and figuring out how to deal with gaskets
or bonding. Side windows would still be a challenge, but maybe they
could be converted to more modern bonded windows. Big benefit there
would also be aerodynamics. Since I've become a more serious cyclist
I'm fascinated with aerodynamic efficiency. Chopping the top and
recessing the wipers would give the car a smaller front profile, more
sloped front window, and less disturbance over the wipers. Pair that
with an underpanel and I bet you could raise the car's top speed 25
mph and increase fuel efficiency.

Plus, I think it could look really good. Maybe even slope the top to
match the angle of the bottom edge of the rear quarter windows (Mk1).
It could look really aggressive, but I'm not sure. I'd love to hear
if anyone's done it before and see pictures.

Oh, and while I'm talking pipe dreams - I'm going to convert the rear
panel to a tailgate, like a pickup truck. The tail lights will be two
pieces and when the hatch is up, you'll be able to swing that panel
down and it will be flush with the rear floor. Coat the whole area
with truck bed liner and it will be perfect for hauling crap around!
