[OT] Digital camcorder recommendations?

I love my canon ZR whatever. Mine is old enough that it doesn't have a built in light (I use one that plugs into the "shoe" on top) like the newer ones do. Would advise against a camera without a light. The canons can also send video and sound directly to a pc via the firewire. I found the video cameras made by Sony and Canon to be pretty comparable, but I have had way better luck with Canon stuff not crapping out on me. Got it from buydig.com, I think.
At least a few years ago, the video resolution on DV cameras varied quite a bit, and Canon was on the better end. Also, I prefer the MiniDV tapes to the Digital 8mm we use at work. Apparently there is/was a slight resolution/quality advantage to those at the time (3.5 years ago).
Features I was looking for and wouldn't do without: Light, Color viewfinder, 720+ lines vertical (I think) resolution, and OH YEAH! I almost forgot. Get the most OPTICAL zoom you can get. Digital zoom looks really crappy by the time it gets to a TV of any size. Keep in mind that, by the time you are embarrassing your kids with these videos we will all be using HDTV big flat panels or something. :)

I'm sure Al's is newer than mine but I've got a Sony DCR-TRV525. Love it, and for many of the<br>reasons Al mentions below.
