My update

Great cars, but honestly this is why I might not have
a Mk1 in the stable (as much as I'd like to one day). 
I am not up to that because I have zero bodywork
experience.  Maybe when I build my house/3-car garage
that could be a thing.  Maybe.

I don't envy you.  But I do respect your doggedness in
dealing with it and think it is great that you are
chronicling it with pics.
