Crank Seal leaking - Passenger Side

So how long would it take to replace the crank seal on the passenger side.
One of my main concerns is the crank bolt that has to be tighten to well it
depends on the type and where in the Bentley you look but that is not my
question right now.  How do you support the engine from turning over to
loosen and tight this bolt.  How much other trouble is there.  I know you
have to set the timing before dissasembly and that part scares me the most.
What function does the carrier do and why does it have its own seal?  Does
the carrier need to be removed or can it be to make the job easier.
