Concerning long (A1) vs. short (A2) struts, your problem is that your long struts can't get short enough to give you the travel you want, so you are trying to modify the mounting to give more space for your long strut.  The other approach to elongating the space for the strut is to shorten the strut.  So the A2 shorter struts will help.  



Now, maybe Neal can tell us exactly how the struts have to be modified to get an A2 insert into an A1 car. ???
