8V Exhaust Manifold question?

1) So what is the deal with the exhaust manifolds from the earlier a1? Has it been confirmed that the make more HP than the toilet bowl ones? It seems that they are preferred to the toilet bowl ones due to shear practicality in the R/R department.
  What is the draw back to them (if any)? 
   
  2) Who can deny or confirm this information?
  3) Who has one of them they would not care to part with?
