Wheel bearing? Prob'ly, but...

I disagree with all of you. Buy or rent the bearing tool. Easy as changing
a tire (well almost.) The only things that come off the car are the lug
nuts, wheels and bearings. I have the tool (purchased from Peter) and would
not do the bearings with out. No alignment needed following the job. The
most difficult part of the job with the tool is removing the inner race from
the hub.

Julie, If it is the bearings, get with the guys from GAP and use theirs.

Since I know the car first hand I will offer a few things before you go to
all that trouble. Those bearings were done about two years ago. Both sides
with in the same week. I remember onetime that I was hearing something on
the right side front and checked the wheel. Thought for sure it was the
bearing and ended up being the brake dust shield rubbing. I had to bend it
slightly and no more noise. No idea what caused it to move and rub in the
first place. I was on the road and didn't have time to investigate. You
have to remember this is a car that didn't want to leave here.

Call if you need anything,

Dave

I have to disagree. Sounds nice in principle, but "disconnect the tie rods
from the hub carriers, disconnect the balljoints... remove the upper strut
bearing nuts" means you've changed three locations, any of which can affect
alignment, which is specified in minutes of angle (1 minute ["] = 1/60 of a
degree).
It doesn't take much to throw off alignment, and I doubt you can be 100%

sure that components are reinstalled exactly to their original locations. An

alignment check at a good shop is cheap insurance.
