bing-bing -- possible Mk1 instead...

A 1.6 has the water inlet between cyl 1 & 2 where as the 1.8 JH engine has 
the inlet between 3 & 4. A big difference in power as well.

I got my car from a kid who messed up a 16v conversion and messed up the 
wiring harness. A bit of body work was needed as well. I paid $500 for it 
and towed it home 500 miles.

2 years later (after a LOT of whining to the guys on the list) I got it 
running.

Offer as much as $1500 if it looks ok for rust. Have one of the local 
listers check it out as well.
