Sorta OT: A funny thing happened....

Any Corrado advice would be appreciated:

After exiting the toll booth, I experienced a drastic decrease in
power, the radio, however kept playing.  Fighting the urge to trim for
best glide, I turned the ignition off and back on and was able to drive
the rest of the way to work.  The volage indicated 12 and oil indicated
5.5 after the abnormality and for the rest of the 30 minute drive.  

Any ideas what this may have been, frankly it sounds electrical but
this is to a dumb pilot.  Our mechanic has said that a new gasket is
needed (Tonee remembers where, sorry I don't at the moment), but this
doesn't sound related.
