Yes, late 84... That is what I was thinking... Will one from an 86 work
the same/be interchangeable?

That a late 84 or a early 84?

If its a late 84 (small spare) I bet its your transfer pump.

Here is the deal....

Today I am driving the Yellow Rocc (Turboed G60 / Motronic) to do my
appraisals in. The Charleston morning started out beautiful at 72* with
a
slight wind and sunny. The turbo was loving it. Best the car has run
since
I bought it (last September/October) I am just finishing up in the last
neighborhood shooting pics of comparables when the noise I have been
hearing
for the past couple of weeks gets real loud (sounds kind of like a water
pump that is on its way out, but not related to engine speed) and then
the
car dies. Like it ran out of gas. I sit for a few minutes just letting
everything cool down and it fired right up. Drove about a half mile and
same thing. (I was thinking this is typical of fuel pump failure) I let
it
sit and it starts right up. This time I wait and see if it will stall
again
just sitting in Neutral. It did. I start it up again and this time when
it
starts to die I hit the gas pedal. As long as I kept it above 3000 rpm,
it
would stay running. Made it to the Interstate and all was well at
highway
speeds. I made it back to my section of town, topped off the fuel (it
was
about a 1/4 tank) and the car ran great with no further problems.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I am still thinking fuel pump. I
still
hear the noise that sounds like it is coming from behind the passenger
seat.
When the car is stopped and I am outside trying to hear it, I don't.
Any
one have any clues for me to track down?

TIA.

Dave
